4 febrero, 2026The Clinician Scientist Development Award provides funding for mentored clinical research to rpovide protected research time to early-career physician faculty to enable career development and transition to independent investigators as clinician scientists. FARA’s objective is to promote training and retention of clinicians who wish to develop expertise in diagnosis, management and/or treatment of Friedrich’s Ataxia as part of their clinical practice and who want to engage in FA-focused clinical and/or translational research.
Eligibility
- Recipient must have an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent) and completed residency training no more than 7 years prior to the beginning of this award; if the applicant completed a fellowship of any kind after residency, the eligibility is still based on the date residency was completed
- Current principal investigator if an individual mentored training grant or current or former principal investigator of an NIH R-level or equivalent grant are not eligible
Applications
Necessary documents:
- Letter of support from the mentor(s)
- A mentoring plan developed jointly by the applicant and mentor(s)
- The applicant must contribute at least 50% effort to the project
- Letter of support from Department Chair, confirming at least 50% protected time and outlining other responsibilities (such as clinic and on-call time)

Total budget of USD 100.000 per year for 1 or 2 years
