In this talk, results of various efforts to create enhanced systems for delivering antibacterial agents will be presented. We have designed and developed innovative biocompatible polymeric nanofiber dressings loaded with antibiotics, synthetic antiseptics, and essential oil-based antiseptics. The focus is on ensuring effective and prolonged antimicrobial activity while minimizing toxicity through the careful selection of biocompatible polymers. Techniques such as specific antibody targeting and antibiotic synergy are discussed to enhance efficacy and minimize resistance at low concentrations.
In vitro evaluation of all materials allows us to understand their bactericidal properties and their potential use in infected topical wounds.
